Balinese Cooking Class
Balinese cooking is built on a foundation of fresh herbs, spices, and techniques passed down through generations — and there is no better way to understand it than to cook it yourself. At Pondok Pekak, your cooking class is led by Ibu Kadek, a warm and experienced Balinese cook who makes the process as enjoyable as the meal at the end.
Every class follows the same satisfying structure: you start by making spring rolls — deep-fried rolls stuffed with vegetables and served with peanut sauce — as you get comfortable in the kitchen and get to know your ingredients. Then you choose three dishes from a menu of traditional Balinese and Indonesian mains, and one dessert.
The menu is a genuine cross-section of the food you will find at a Balinese family table: chicken slow-cooked in Bumbu Bali paste, fish wrapped and grilled in banana leaf, tempeh and tofu curries, fried corn with urab (coconut-dressed vegetables), and crispy fried chicken with sweet sauce. For dessert, choose between Bubuh Injin — black rice pudding with coconut sauce — or Pisang Goreng, Bali's beloved fried banana.
Once everything is cooked, you sit down together and eat what you made. All ingredients are included in the price.
